Ha, I get another pass because I made another video. This is just my 'learn needle tatting with my flower pendant' video, but with talking again.
This may be the last video for a spell though as the husband is getting his vacation time soon and quite honestly I fear he would mock me were he stumble upon me talking to the camera. Also out of curiosity, how do *you* pronounce the word 'picot'? A different pronunciation was shared with me yesterday and more conversation on the subject resulted in a few different pronunciations along with explanations for the differences. So out of pure curiosity and no malice, I ask yours.
Picot = PEE-co
ReplyDeleteWhich is also more confusing when you take into account that older patterns use the word "purl" instead of picot.
PEE-coe, silent 't', 1st syllable stressed because I've anglicized it.
ReplyDeleteMine is 'pee-coe'. Same as Seawicked.
ReplyDeleteCheck how it sounds here:

Fox : )
like sewicked and fox said. Years ago someone had a link to a voice pronounciation. I always wondered myself before then.
ReplyDeletepee-coh
Kinda fun to say actually.
I say picot like in a picot fence. for some reason it comes better to me than other ways of saying it. don't the picots remind you of a picot fence?
ReplyDeleteYup, I'm with the others on pronunciation, peek-oh.
ReplyDeleteAs a shuttle tatter (and one that uses thin thread) it's so amazing to watch with the needle! You make it look so easy. I also love how easy it is to hide ends in thicker thread. Great little video.
I know the correct way to say it is Pee-co, but when I first learned to tat (short stint with a needle) I used to call it a Pick-it. Because that's what I'd be doing, picking at it..lol..
ReplyDeleteI say "pee-co" like the others, LOL, but that's a new thing... Before a week or two ago, I kept saying, "pee-co or pee-cut. However you say it." Yes, I said that EVERY time I said picot. LOL. My poor mom who is learning tatting from me as I learn to tat is now confused about pronunciation. LOL. She'll say it one way one time and the other the next. LOL. It's my fault, I know, but it makes me giggle.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I still think a video about blocking and/or stiffening would be a good one. :-P

In the Netherlands we say PEE-co as well. I just ordered tatting needles on the internet and they are in the mail (just got a message), so I am going to watch your video's a lot. Thanks for making them.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for posting your video. I haven't used the needles in a long time and needed a quick review. Perfect timing!
ReplyDelete:) now I know I am not the only one who says 'pee-cot', that picot with the 'T'.
ReplyDeleteI use shuttles for my tatting, but I enjoyed your video.
